Review - THE
ska flames: ska fever
By Dell (Backdoor
Promotions England).
During the late eighties, Japan was experiencing
a ska boom, and a host of acts emerged from the nation. With
Gaz Mayall often appearing on TV and performing live in Japan,
it gave him the time to check out the bands that were emerging
underneath the Rising Sun.
One of the best Japanese ska acts are The Ska Flames, whose
authentic thunderous ska is quite delightful. Gaz wasted no
time, & asked the band to record an album for Gaz's Rockin
Records.
Ska Fever was released in 1988, & it became one of the
must have ska releases of that particular time. The UK dancehalls
& ska discos were all rocking to the Ska Flames that year,
and the album was voted as ' Best of 1988 ' in some global
fanzines. That does not surprise me. Hot Jamaican ska from
Japan !!
